She's here! {Idaho Newborn Photographer}

Well, she's here! My sweet little baby girl was born last week, and she is just so precious all I want to do is kiss those squishy little cheeks. But I managed to stop cuddling with her for a minute while I gave her her first (of many) photo shoot. So we set up a few backdrops in my little home studio (okay, I'll be honest, we set up on my bed. :) The master bedroom gets great light!).

She was such a sweet little thing and let me try out several poses and set-ups that I'd been wanting to practice. And yeah, she'd better get used to this, because she'll be seeing a lot more of my camera!

I had so much fun meeting Samson here. He is certainly a gentle giant! For this shot I had him run right at me which was a little startling given his size, but he was so sweet! He's a one-year-old bull mastiff, and such a good boy! He may have been the star of the show, but I also got some gorgeous shots of his owners too. :)

I love the "conversation" going on here.

I love photographing seniors! M was so much fun! She was so comfortable in front of the camera, even silly...I loved it!

And we were shooting at the perfect time. The fall colors in Eagle along the Boise River were just gorgeous...just like the beauty I was photographing. :)

I can't decide which edit I like better, the classic black and white or a faded antiqued effect.

I had so much fun with this family out at Eagle Island State Park! For some reason, all the bugs decided to come out and big brother was NOT happy about that. But he soon got over his fear when he saw how many ladybugs there were (funny how most of us hate spiders, but you gotta love ladybugs! They're just cuter I guess).

I love when someone wants to incorporate their personality and passion into their portraits! So when S and A asked about having their Harley Davidson motorcycle in their engagement photos, I was thrilled!

I love the shine on it and the reflection off the tank. In some of the photos I could actually see me and my camera in the reflection off the bike. Love it!

What a beautiful couple married at such a beauiful location! The Sawtooth Winery in Nampa, Idaho offered so many great backdrops for our portraits.

I just loved the sweet vintage feel of their decor, and the attention to detail--everything from the centerpieces, to the photo booth for guests, right down to even the handmade corsages for the groomsmen.

I had so much fun photographing this beautiful girl this weekend! She also took advantage of my BFF special and brought along her friend. Here's one of them together and E got her own senior portraits too (see the next blog post).

She's a natural in front of the camera and was SO fun to work with! She said she would be "my canvas to paint." Love it!

Her boyfriend even came to join in for a few cute shots.

Then we headed over to the track so she could show off her pole vaulting skills. Look out, Olympics, here she comes!

We got an abrupt welcome to fall today! While it's still been sunny and warm most days, the day we schelduled L's senior portraits was suddenly cloudy and very rainy. But the show must go on! Luckily her mom was a great assistant with the umbrellas and L did a great job of pretending that she wasn't freezing!

The Idaho Botanical Gardens are just so lovely--perfect for portraits! And a great option for anyone because with my Photographer's Membership I can get up to 5 guests in for free.

This family was so much fun to work with. They told me they'd previously tried and failed two previous times to get a family picture. All this proud mom wanted was a nice picture to hang on their wall! Well, now she's got several to choose from.

I don't normally share reviews, but this one just made me so happy. Arin left this on my Facebook page. And this is why I love what I do!

These shots were all taken at the gorgeous Two Rivers Clubhouse in Eagle.

Those shoes are to die for! And I love the way the groom picked up his pant legs just as she picked up her dress. Too cute!

Extended Family Portraits {Nampa Idaho Photographer}

This lovely lady had the wonderful idea to give her parents some long over-due family portraits for their wedding anniversary. Often as the kids get older, taking a nice family portrait gets put on the back burner. But these are photos that will be cherished for years to come.

Of course the family got the original edit too, but then after playing around with it a minute I decided that my favorite version was this edit I like to call "Dream," with a slight glow and vignette.

We had to hurry a bit while doing this young man's portraits. He just happened to be the Nampa High School Homecoming King and had to make it back for the game and dance that evening.

Little E's mom bought her this sweet little shabby dress online and had a vintage style in mind for the shoot.

Of course she's getting all the fully-edited colorful images like this one.....

But then I also got to play around with some fun antiqued effects like this one.

And what I especially love about this last one is that if you look close enough into those beautiful deep brown eyes you'll see the reflection of the blue sky and even the silhouettes of her mom and I. Like a mirror--so cool!

And what princesses they are! These little girlies were so excited to get all dressed up in their springtime dresses and let me take some "princess pictures!" I got so many cute ones of them, it was hard to choose my favorite. While their little prince of a brother kept me on my toes. I always had to be one (or three) steps ahead of him because he was constantly on the move! :) And those two little feet are fast!

These pretty girls were such a blast to photograph...and obvious best friends! When we were doing individual portraits the other one was always close behind me making her friend smile. :)

They were the first to take advantage of my BFF Senior Portrait Discount. By booking together and sharing a session date, they saved $50 when compared to two separate sessions! And they still receive great individual portraits, as well as pics together.

Sweet Little Baby L is somewhat of a miracle, being born 7 weeks early. But after only 3 weeks in the NICU she was doing well enough to come home. She is just so adorable and I am so glad we were able to capture this special time.

This family (most especially the mom of these cute kiddos) is such a dear friend of mine. They are moving this month and I realized that I had never photographed her kids. It was a small gift that I could give to such a good friend that will be so missed.

And as we've always said,

"This is not goodbye, it's 'See ya later!'"

Beautiful Colors at the Orchard

Sometimes my own kids can be the hardest to photograph. They know all my tricks! All my silly noises and catch phrases to get them to laugh. And for the most part...it's old, it's not amusing whatsoever any more. Sometimes even candy bribes don't work anymore. And they end up making silly faces back at me.

Maybe that's why this is my favorite picture of them from this photo shoot.

Plus, they do look rather sweet and the colors are just stunning!

I got some great pics, but honestly the majority of the shoot looked more like this.

I almost deleted it, but then I decided I liked that it captured them so well. Sometimes the ones we love the most aren't the traditional posed shots, but the ones that show a little more personality!

As you can see, I have way too many favorites from this shoot to narrow it down to just a few! You guys are just too cute, Em!

I gave them a lot of different styles to choose from. This is a faded effect with slightly burned edges.

You gotta love brother's face! What a character!

Then we had a wardrobe change for little sis. It's a tradition in their family to have pictures done in a sailor outfit as a baby. Her brother did it and even her Daddy.

I love this..."ooo la la, what is he whispering to her?" you may be thinking. Truth be told, he's humming the Jeopardy theme song! But it made her smile and created a great picture! :)

A family portrait session was long overdue for these guys. I did their last one over 3 years ago! I can't believe how fast time goes....Anyway, with growing kids and an additional baby, it was about time!

I love the tongue!

This one is probably my favorite...they're so sweet together. And Livy's face is too cute!

They also wanted to get pictures of each child with their Mom and Dad. K is creating a little shelf in their rooms with the picture, the first letter of their name decorated, and something that symbolizes what

they're interested in. I can't wait to see the finished product, she is so creative.

A Beautiful Baby and Getting My Groove Back

Life has been crazy and I have not had much time to put into my photography. All the while, everytime I see a beautiful photograph, it sparks my passion--I just wish I had more time in the day, or that I didn't have to sleep...that would be nice sometimes. Anyway, I know there is a time and a season for everything in life, and I know that someday life will slow down just enough for me to pick up my camera a little more often and take pictures for other people (I manage to take plenty of my own kids).

Fortunately, this hobby of mine is a great bartering item and it allowed me to get my hair cut and colored. Thanks for trading with me, Emily! I love my hair!

As you can see, Emily has her hands quite full herself with this beautiful little angel named Eden (isn't that just the prettiest name?).....

.....and the silly, energetic, very handsome older brother, Dawson.

I took some beautiful shots of the W Family at Albertson Park in Boise (this is definitely my favorite picture taking place in Boise right now). They were such a fun family. And it was nice to do a photo shoot with no little munchins, that's so rare for me. I didn't even have to jump around and make silly noises for them to smile. :)

This autumn colors in this spot were gorgeous, don't you think?

The Gibbons' Family

After all that nasty weather during the week of Christmas I was really worried about how we would take the Gibbons' family pictures. But we got really lucky and most of the snow was melted the day before and it was even pretty nice outside (for late December, of course). The above is one of my favorites of the day. This is the reaction I got when I prompted them to say, "Daddy's stinky!" Oh, the things I'll do to get a kid to smile...

The Yearsley Family

I came to this photo shoot with all kinds of great poses in mind. Well, Bailey had other plans. That little cutie made up her mind that she would not sit and pose and smile (well, how could I expect that out of a spunky two-year-old?). So after a few failed attempts, I told them "just go play! Pretend I'm not here." Then we finally saw that sweet smile come out! She got swung around by Daddy, she ran around barking like a puppy, and I think she forgot I was there to take her picture and she just had fun! Some kids seem to be really effected by the whole process of "we are here to sit and smile and take your picture." And especially at this age they just want to do the exact opposite. Ya know, I have taken many family portraits where it's the Dad who has this attitude!

Senior Picture Time

Kamille's senior pictures are awesome. We picked a great spot not far away at the Caldwell Rotary Pond, and at sunset the warm colors are beautiful. We even found a way up to the railroad track to get some great shots. I love the one of her walking down the track. There's something about the lines of the rails that I love (especially in black and white). Thanks for being my model, Kamille!

Maggie's Getting Married!

My darling husband has been completely supportive of my photographic endeavors (along with all my other crazy ideas). So we went to the camera store yesterday for my birthday with the intention to buy a new camera lens. Well, at the end of the day, we came home with a whole new camera. I came to the conclusion that even though my camera was only a about 3 years old, the newer models were highly superior. We went with the Nikon D80. Luckily we got a great deal because Nikon's newest model, the D90, is coming out next month, so they're trying to get rid of the "old" model. I have been amazed at the difference already! I was so excited to do my first sitting today with my new camera, and it performed great!

Last week while I was in Utah, I took the Heaps' family photos. I can't believe how grown up and beautiful their children are! It took some effort to get little Danny warmed up to the idea of getting his picture taken, but after a little play time with Dad he was all smiles.
